• Venous leg ulcers account for approximately seventy to eighty percent of chronic lower extremity wounds, characterized by prolonged healing times exceeding three months and a five-year recurrence rate approaching seventy percent. The underlying pathophysiology involves sustained ambulatory venous hypertension secondary to valvular incompetence, calf muscle pump dysfunction, or deep venous outflow obstruction, culminating in capillary leakage, leukocyte entrapment, and skin breakdown. Key clinical risk factors include advanced age, previous deep vein thrombosis, obesity, female sex, and prolonged standing.
