Description

The Fellowship in Abdominal Wall Reconstruction at Apollo Hospitals is designed to train the next generation of leaders in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. This 1-year, in-person program is tailored for general surgeons with at least 2 years of postresidency practice, offering advanced training in open, laparoscopic, and robotic hernia repair techniques.

Fellows will gain in-depth knowledge of abdominal wall anatomy, patient optimization strategies, and innovative surgical techniques like component separation and endo-knotting. The curriculum covers preoperative planning, postoperative care, and managing complications arising from hernia surgeries. Participants will also have access to Apollo’s state-of-the-art simulation modules for hands-on practice.

Fellows will learn to manage high-risk cases, including patients with prior abdominal surgeries and complex hernia recurrences. They will also gain expertise in innovative techniques such as using biological meshes and robotic docking for intricate reconstructions. With exposure to 75+ procedures during the fellowship, participants will develop proficiency in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques. The program also offers an international observership opportunity, enriching the fellows’ global perspective on hernia surgery. The completion of the fellowship is marked by an assessment and certification provided by the Apollo Hospitals Educational and Research Foundation (AHERF) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL). Regular skill assessments, simulation-based tests, and mentorship from global faculty members ensure well-rounded development.

Upon completion, participants will be equipped to manage high-volume hernia practices and lead specialized abdominal wall reconstruction units. Certification from Apollo Hospitals Educational and Research Foundation (AHERF) marks the culmination of this program, ensuring global recognition and career advancement in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.
