The Internal Medicine Training (IMT) programme forms the first stage of specialty training for physicians, preparing trainees to manage patients with acute and chronic medical conditions at a senior level. The approved curriculum for IMT is a sub-set of the curricula for General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Acute Internal Medicine (AIM), following a spiral curriculum where topics are revisited with increasing levels of difficulty. This approach ensures that new learning is related to previous knowledge, and the competence of the trainee increases progressively.
